The Academy of Our Lady of Peace Pilots will venture away from home to challenge the Cathedral Catholic Dons at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.
As a matter of fact, Academy of Our Lady of Peace put up the most runs they have all season on Tuesday. Everything went their way against Patrick Henry as they made off with a 15-4 victory. The Pilots have beaten the Patriots the last three times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Patriots has come to flipping the script.
Bryn Marsh was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing five innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off six hits. Marsh was also solid in the batter's box, scoring three runs while going 2-for-3.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Samantha Gehler, who fired off three home runs, seven RBI, and four runs while going 4-for-4. Those three home runs gave her a new career-high. Alayna Ma'Ake was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one home run, five RBI, and three runs.
Academy of Our Lady of Peace was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .536. They are 5-1 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Point Loma typically has all the answers at home, but on Tuesday Cathedral Catholic proved too difficult a challenge. They put the hurt on the Pointers with a sharp 13-4 win. That nine run margin sets a new team best for the Dons this season.
Cathedral Catholic also got a great performance from Mimi Botticelli as she pitched 4.1 innings while giving up just one earned run off six hits.
On the hitting side, Kayla Walton was a standout: she went 2-for-5 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Tyler Price, who scored three runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-3.
Cathedral Catholic is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-6 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.5 runs over those games. As for Academy of Our Lady of Peace, they picked up their first home win, bumping their record up to 6-9.
Academy of Our Lady of Peace suffered a grim 10-3 defeat to Cathedral Catholic in their previous meeting back in May of 2024. Can the Pilots avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
