Baseball Recap: West Ottawa Has No Trouble Against Covenant Christian

While West Ottawa put up some runs on Monday, the same can't be said for Covenant Christian. The Panthers were the clear victors by a 10-0 margin over the Chargers. The result was nothing new for the Panthers, who have now won 12 matches by six runs or more so far this season.

Ivan Mata looked comfortable as he pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one walk in four consecutive appearances.

At the plate, West Ottawa got a big performance out of Solomon Wegmeyer, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with two runs. That's the most runs Wegmeyer has posted over his last 14 contests. Another player making a difference was Quinn VanderKamp, who went 2-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base.

West Ottawa was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .389. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in four consecutive games.

West Ottawa's victory bumped their record up to 21-14. As for Covenant Christian, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 10-20.

As for Covenant Christian, they will be playing at home against West Michigan Aviation Academy at 4:15 p.m. on Tuesday.
