The Pitman Panthers will square off against the Millville Thunderbolts at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Pitman has given up an average of 10.6 runs per game this season, but Monday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Pitman is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to 20 runs on Wednesday, they were much more limited against Cinnaminson on Saturday. They lost 15-1 to the Pirates. The defeat continues a trend for the Panthers in their meetings with the Pirates: they've now lost three in a row.
Pitman saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Logan Williams, who went 1-for-2 with one run.
Millville not only won on Tuesday, but they posted their biggest win since March 19th (when they won 18-1). They were the clear victors by a 13-2 margin over Pennsville Memorial. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Thunderbolts.
Cole Mulharan and Garrett Shapiro made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Mulharan struck out nine batters over 3.2 innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. Meanwhile, Shapiro struck out six batters over two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Those nine strikeouts gave Mulharan a new career-high. At the plate, Mulharan went 3-for-4 with four RBI, one stolen base, and one double, while Shapiro got on base in four of his five plate appearances with two runs and one RBI. That double was Mulharan's first of the season.
In other batting news, Nathan Heacox and Logan Burlew did most of the damage at the plate: Heacox got on base in four of his five plate appearances with three runs, while Burlew went 2-for-4 with two runs and two RBI. Those three runs gave Heacox a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Patrick Tull, who went 2-for-5 with two runs and one double.
Millville always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .537. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in three consecutive matchups.
Millville's win bumped their record up to 4-10. As for Pitman, their loss dropped their record down to 4-11.
