The Desert Edge Scorpions will take on the Chaparral Firebirds at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Chaparral took a loss in their last contest and will be looking to turn the tables on Desert Edge, who comes in off a win.
Desert Edge barely beat North Canyon the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. Desert Edge was the clear victors by a 15-8 margin over North Canyon on Thursday. The Scorpions haven't had any issues with the Rattlers recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive victory against them.

Aliyah Fatigoni (2027) was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She struck out ten batters over seven innings while giving up six earned (and two unearned) runs off 13 hits (and not a single walk). Those ten strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 3-for-5.
In other batting news, Gwen Alvarez (2026) was a standout: she went 3-for-4 with four RBI, one triple, and one stolen base. Another player making a difference was Leila Taylor (2027), who scored three runs while going 4-for-5.
Desert Edge always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .595. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as North Canyon only posted an OBP of .343.
Meanwhile, Chaparral didn't have quite enough to beat Notre Dame Prep on Monday and fell 6-5. The Firebirds have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Ava Stallone made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and scored a run while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances. Bria Belden was another key player, scoring two runs while going 1-for-2.
Chaparral's loss dropped their record down to 6-8. As for Desert Edge, the win got them back to even at 5-5.
Friday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Desert Edge has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .555. However, it's not like Chaparral struggles in that department as they've averaged .528. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Desert Edge might still be hurting after the 16-2 defeat they got from Chaparral in their previous meeting last Thursday. Will Desert Edge have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the action for a full breakdown of the game and more softball content.
