The Ridgewood Generals will square off against the Claymont Mustangs at 5:00 p.m. on Monday.
Ridgewood came into their game on Saturday off a hard-fought close win, but unfortunately suffered a serious change of fortune. They lost 9-3 to Conotton Valley. The Generals haven't had much luck with the Rockets recently, as the team has come up short the last six times they've met.
Ridgewood saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Alyza Fender, who went 1-for-3 with one triple and one RBI. That triple was Fender's first of the season. Kaydence Lahna was another, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one run.
Harrison Central typically has all the answers at home, but on Friday Claymont proved too difficult a challenge. They blew past the Huskies 12-1. The Mustangs not only won on Friday, but they posted their biggest win since April 22nd (when they won 13-0).
Peyton Lawhun made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run over four innings pitched. Lawhun was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI.
In other batting news, Claymont let Ava Edwards and Aubree Cottrell run wild. Edwards went a perfect 4-for-4 with three runs, while Cottrell went 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one double. Those two runs gave Cottrell a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Bella Boyd, who went 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI.
Claymont always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .531. They are a perfect 5-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Claymont has been performing well recently as they've won eight of their last ten contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 15-12 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.3 runs on average over those games. As for Ridgewood, their defeat dropped their record down to 19-6.
Ridgewood was able to grind out a solid victory over Claymont in their previous meeting back in March, winning 4-1. Will the Generals repeat their success, or do the Mustangs have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
