The Nederland Panthers will be playing in front of their home fans against the Union Colony Prep Timberwolves at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Both teams come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Last Monday, Nederland beat Two Roads Charter School 32-22. That ten points margin sets a new team best for Nederland this season.
It was another big night for Gavin Dillon, who scored 12 points along with seven rebounds. Rick Fortunato was another key contributor, scoring 11 points.
Meanwhile, Union Colony Prep earned a 58-51 win over Front Range Christian on Monday.
Union Colony Prep's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Tanner Sarchet led the charge by scoring 17 points along with seven steals. Sarchet has been hot recently, having posted 15 or more points the last three times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Josiah Rodriguez, who scored 25 points along with five rebounds.
Nederland's win bumped their record up to 3-6. As for Union Colony Prep, their victory ended a five-game drought at home and bumped them up to 2-8.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Nederland have been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 23.9 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Union Colony Prep struggles in that department as they've been averaging 20.7 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Nederland took a serious blow against Union Colony Prep when the teams last played back in February of 2018, falling 66-27. The game was all but decided by halftime, at which point Nederland was down 40-9.
