After a string of three wins, the Greenwood Mennonite Flames's good fortune finally ran out on Saturday. They ended up on the wrong side of a tough 51-30 walloping at the hands of Varsity Opponent. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Greenwood Mennonite has scored all season.
Greenwood Mennonite's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Carter Long, who scored 11 points along with eight rebounds and three steals. That was a full 36.7% of Greenwood Mennonite's points, marking the seventh time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Jay Yoder, who scored six points.
Greenwood Mennonite struggled to work together and finished the game with only four assists. That's the fewest assists they've managed all season.
Greenwood Mennonite's defeat ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 5-3. As for Varsity Opponent, their win ended a 17-game drought on the road and puts them at 250-932-2.
Greenwood Mennonite will take on Concord Christian Academy at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Varsity Opponent, they will be playing in front of their home fans against New Hope Leadership Academy at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday.
