Rifle scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Wednesday. They skirted past Roaring Fork 66-64. That 66-64 margin sets a new team best for Rifle this season.
It was another big night for Logan Gross, who shot 6-for-7 from downtown and dropped a double-double on 41 points and ten rebounds. He also posted two+ blocks for the first time this season. Sterling Cook was another key contributor, scoring nine points along with nine rebounds.
Meanwhile, Grand Valley's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Saturday after their fourth straight loss dating back to last season. They fell 54-47 to Gunnison.
Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the most dominant came from Andrew Horner, who scored 19 points. Another player making a difference was Michael Fredrich, who scored 11 points.
Rifle's victory ended a 12-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 1-4. As for Grand Valley, their loss dropped their record down to 0-1.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Rifle have been smashing the glass this season, having only averaged 23.6 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Grand Valley struggles in that department as they've been averaging 23 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
