Meanwhile, it may have taken nine innings to finish the job, but Fort Stockton ultimately got the result they hoped for on Wednesday. They blew past Monahans 11-3. The Panthers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six contests by six runs or more this season.
Rylan Nunez made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out ten batters over 3.2 innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in February. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-5 with one triple and one run.
In other batting news, Gerry Diaz was excellent, scoring a run while getting on base in four of his six plate appearances. Another player making a difference was Ayden H, who scored a run while going 3-for-6.
Pecos' loss dropped their record down to 6-10. As for Fort Stockton, their record is now 11-7.
Friday's match might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Pecos has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .479. However, it's not like Fort Stockton struggles in that department as they've averaged .463. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Pecos might still be hurting after the 14-7 defeat they got from Fort Stockton when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Can Pecos avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
