Central Cambria is 2-7 against Somerset since May of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Red Devils will head out to face off against the Eagles at 4:30 p.m. Both teams are still undefeated (Central Cambria has four wins , while Somerset has eight dating back to last season).
Central Cambria proved they can win big on Saturday (they won by ten) and on Tuesday they proved they can win the close ones too. They skirted past Forest Hills 5-4. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Red Devils have posted since April 20, 2024.
Central Cambria got a great performance from Owen Harringer as he tossed six innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off two hits.
At the plate, Grady Snyder and Brayden Blasko did most of the damage at the plate: Snyder went 3-for-4 with one triple and one run, while Blasko went a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI. Those RBI marked the first that Blasko brought in this season. Another player making a difference was Ben Howard, who scored two runs while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances.
Meanwhile, Somerset made easy work of Clearfield on Friday and carried off a 16-1 victory. The match marked the Eagles' most dominant win of the season so far.
Colt Hagans made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing four innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. Hagans was even better at the plate, firing off two home runs, five RBI, and three runs while going 2-for-2. Those three runs gave him a new career-high.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kahne Foltz, who scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. Max Means was another key player, scoring two runs while going 1-for-3.
Somerset was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .500. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .303 or higher in six consecutive games.
Somerset pushed their record up to 8-0 with the victory, which was their tenth straight at home dating back to last season. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average over those games. As for Central Cambria, their record is now 4-0.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Tuesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Central Cambria has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 4.2 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Somerset struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 3.5 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Central Cambria skirted past Somerset 9-8 when the teams last played back in April of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Red Devils since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
