The Opp Bobcats will challenge the Orange Beach Makos at 10:45 a.m. on Wednesday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Opp comes in on nine and Orange Beach on 13.
Opp is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Tuesday. They never let Satsuma get on the board and left with a 2-0 win. The Bobcats' pitching crew has been rock solid lately; the team hasn't given up a run in their last three contests.
Opp's victory was truly a team effort as four different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Madie Wilson, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Orange Beach made easy work of Ashford on Tuesday and carried off a 14-0 win. The Makos might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 32 matchups by six runs or more this season.
Kaitlynn Robertson made a big impact no matter where she played. She pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs off one hit. What's more, she posted three strikeouts, the most she's had over her last two games. She was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 1-for-1 with two RBI and one run.
In other pitching news, MK McMullan looked comfortable as she kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out eight over four innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances.
Back at the plate, Jayde Palmer and Teagan Revette did most of the damage at the plate: Palmer went a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base, while Revette went a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. That's the most RBI Palmer has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Katie King, who went 2-for-4 with two doubles, one run, and one RBI.
Orange Beach was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .577. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .333 or higher in 13 consecutive contests.
Orange Beach's victory was their sixth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 41-2. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.2 runs over those games. As for Opp, their victory bumped their record up to 33-9.
Wednesday's match will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Opp hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .318. However, it's not like Orange Beach struggles in that department as they've averaged .452. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Opp came up short against Orange Beach in their previous matchup back in March of 2023, falling 5-1. Can the Bobcats avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
