The A.C. Flora Falcons will head out on the road to take on the South Pointe Stallions at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.
A.C. Flora saw some tournament action on Saturday. They fell to Wilson 63-57. While losing is never fun, the Falcons can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 62nd, while the Tigers are ranked 19th).
Despite the loss, A.C. Flora had strong showings from Teonna Draughn, who posted 18 points and three steals, and Naja Gray, who put up 11 points along with seven steals and six boards. The team also got some help courtesy of Tamira Delaney, who had eight points.
Meanwhile, South Pointe put another one in the bag on Saturday to keep their perfect season alive. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Evans 68-34. The Stallions have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won six matches by 34 points or more this season.
A.C. Flora better focus on containing Kaleigh Lucas and JaNyia Cunningham as the pair were huge in South Pointe's win. Lucas went 10 of 21 on her way to 29 points and six steals, while Cunningham almost dropped a double-double on 18 points and nine boards. Cunningham has been hot for a while, having posted eight or more rebounds the last 17 times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Morgan Young, who posted two points in addition to six rebounds and five assists.
South Pointe smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive boards in eight consecutive contests.
A.C. Flora has traveled a rocky road recently having lost six of their last seven games, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-9 record this season. As for South Pointe, their record now sits at 12-0.
A.C. Flora lost to South Pointe on the road by a decisive 64-49 margin in their previous meeting back in January. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Cunningham, who dropped a double-double on 21 points and 15 rebounds. Now that A.C. Flora knows the damage she can cause, will they be able to stop her this time? There's only one way to find out.
