Baseball Game Preview: Lake Braddock Bruins vs. Mount Vernon Majors

Lake Braddock is a perfect 4-0 against Mount Vernon since April of 2016 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Bruins will take on the Majors at 6:30 p.m. Lake Braddock's pitching crew has only allowed 3.5 runs per game this season, so Mount Vernon's hitters will have their work cut out for them.

Lake Braddock is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Tuesday. Everything went their way against Annandale as they made off with a 13-3 victory. The result was nothing new for the Bruins, who have now won ten games by six runs or more so far this season.

Evan George was a standout: he went a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one triple. He is becoming a predictor of Lake Braddock's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 9-12 when he doesn't). Matt Schaeb was another key player, going a perfect 3-for-3 with four RBI, one run, and one double.

Lake Braddock always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .571. The last time their OBP was this high was was before the start of last season.

Meanwhile, Mount Vernon came up short against Hayfield on Thursday and fell 7-3. The Majors have struggled against the Hawks recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive lost meeting.

Lake Braddock has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-12 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.4 runs on average over those games. As for Mount Vernon, their loss dropped their record down to 17-6.

Lake Braddock took their victory against Mount Vernon in their previous matchup back in April of 2017 by a conclusive 10-0 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Bruins since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
