There's no place like home for the Mount Academy Eagles, who bounced back after a tough loss on the road last Friday. They strolled past Pine Plains with points to spare on Wednesday, taking the game 78-64. Given Mount Academy's advantage in MaxPreps' New York basketball rankings (they are ranked 223rd, while Pine Plains is ranked 583rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Mount Academy's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Donovan Baird, who scored 22 points along with seven rebounds and four steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Baird has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Dennis Hofer, who dropped a double-double on 21 points and ten rebounds.
Mount Academy pushed their record up to 8-1 with that win, which was their third straight at home. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 75.7 points per game. As for Pine Plains, they have traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost three of their last four contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-5 record this season.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Mount Academy will take on Webutuck at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Webutuck comes in still looking for their first win of the season. As for Pine Plains, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Dover at 5:45 p.m. on Friday.
