The Webster County Trojans will square off against the McLean County Cougars at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. The timing isn't great for Webster County: they have been struggling with three straight losses at home, while McLean County has snatched up six consecutive wins on the road.
Webster County couldn't beat University Heights on Tuesday even though they stacked four runs on them in the third inning. The Trojans fell just short of the Blazers by a score of 8-7.
Webster County saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Gunnar Boone, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one run and one RBI. Another was Jackson Edens, who got on base in two of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask McLean County). They were the clear victors by a 16-3 margin over Hart County on Wednesday. The result was nothing new for the Cougars, who have now won seven matches by eight runs or more so far this season.
Ayden Rice made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Rice was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one run and one double. That double marked the first that he has hit this season.
In other batting news, Layden Bozarth was incredible, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, two RBI, and one double. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Connor Mitchuson, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs.
McLean County always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .568. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Hart County only posted an OBP of .381.
McLean County's victory bumped their record up to 9-4. As for Webster County, their defeat dropped their record down to 10-7.
