Roosevelt is preparing for their first district matchup of the season on Friday. They will venture away from home to challenge the Muleshoe Mules at 7:00 p.m. Roosevelt has given up an average of 30.5 points per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
On Friday, Roosevelt came up short against Lamesa and fell 48-38. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game last Friday (35), the Eagles still had to take the loss.
Despite the loss, Roosevelt got top-tier performance from Jaden Zuniga, who rushed for 147 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Ricardo Perez was in the mix too, providing the Eagles with two TDs.
Special teams also deserves some recognition, posting 12 points in total. The biggest highlight from special teams (and perhaps the team as a whole) came courtesy of Perez, who ran a kickoff back for a touchdown.
Meanwhile, Muleshoe fell victim to Dalhart and their airtight defense on Friday. They were outmatched by the Wolves and fell 59-0. Having soared to a lofty 49 points in the game before, the Mules' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.
Roosevelt's defeat was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 2-4. As for Muleshoe, their loss dropped their record down to an identical 2-4.
Friday's game will pit two of the most dominant backs against one another: Joseph Kemp and Josue Sigala. Kemp just won't slow down this season and has averaged 95.3 rushing yards per game. Sigala has been a dominant force too and has averaged 30.8 passing yards per game.
Roosevelt came up short against Muleshoe in their previous matchup back in October of 2024, falling 42-36. Thankfully for the Eagles, Nathan Martens (who threw for 252 yards and two touchdowns while completing 95.2% of his passes, and also rushed for 81 yards and one score on only eight carries) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result? There's only one way to find out.
