Starkville is 0-8 against Germantown since January of 2020 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The two teams will face off at 6:00 p.m. on January 23rd without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Starkville entered their tilt with Callaway with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. Starkville put the hurt on Callaway with a sharp 62-36 victory last Saturday. The contest was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 41-14.
Starkville got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Zariyah Edwards out in front who dropped a double-double on 17 points and 14 rebounds. Edwards hasn't dropped below eight rebounds for three straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Jada Gay, who scored 20 points along with two blocks.
Germantown posted their biggest win since November 9, 2023 on Saturday. They breezed by Murrah on the road to the tune of 65-26. Given Germantown's advantage in MaxPreps' Mississippi basketball rankings (they are ranked 23rd, while Murrah is ranked 190th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Germantown had a senior duo take command as Alana Rouser dropped a double-double on 20 points and 12 rebounds and Raegan Jordan scored 14 points along with five assists and five rebounds. Rouser is absolutely dominating the rebound category: she's posted at least eight every time she's taken the court this season. Bella Williams was another key contributor, scoring eight points.
Starkville's victory bumped their record up to 17-3. As for Germantown, they have been performing well recently as they've won 12 of their last 15 games, which provided a nice bump to their 15-8 record this season.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Starkville have been smashing the glass this season, having only averaged 30.8 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Germantown struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 31 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
