Riverside-Durham proved they can win big last Wednesday (they won by 17) and on Friday they proved they can win the close ones too. They had just enough and edged out the Cardinal Gibbons Crusaders 4-3. This was payback for the Pirates, who suffered a 10-2 loss the last time these two teams met.
Brayden Mottola made a big impact no matter where he played. He struck out six batters over four innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits. That's the fewest earned runs he has allowed since back in April of 2024. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with two RBI and one double.
In other batting news, Kj Burton was excellent, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances. Another player making a difference was Cameron Harper, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-2.
