Dwight hasn't had much luck against St. Bede recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Trojans will challenge the Bruins at 4:30 p.m. The two teams are strolling into their games after big wins in their previous games.
Having struggled with 12 defeats in a row, Dwight turned things around against Newark on Tuesday. They put the hurt on the Norsemen with a sharp 12-6 win. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Trojans considering their two-run performance the matchup before.
Madi Ely spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered six runs (all of which were unearned) on five hits and racked up 13 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Elizabeth Hansen, who went 3-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and two doubles. Those two doubles gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Taylor Frobish, who went 2-for-5 with one triple, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Dwight always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .523. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Meanwhile, St. Bede never let their opponents score on Thursday. They were the clear victors by a 13-0 margin over Lowpoint-Washburn. The result was nothing new for the Bruins, who have now won 22 contests by six runs or more so far this season.
Hannah Heiberger made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out eight over five innings pitched. Heiberger was also big at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs and two RBI.
In other batting news, Ava Balestri was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. Another player making a difference was Lily Bosnich, who went 2-for-3 with two doubles, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Dwight's record is now 7-17. As for St. Bede, their record now sits at 27-4.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Friday as neither team is afraid to steal. Dwight has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.4 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like St. Bede struggles in that department as they've been averaging 2.9 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Dwight might still be hurting after the 14-1 loss they got from St. Bede in their previous matchup back in April. Can the Trojans avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
