The New Prairie Cougars will take on the Chesterton Trojans at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as New Prairie comes in on three and Chesterton on four.
It was a proper cat-fight when New Prairie faced off against Elkhart on Thursday. The Cougars came out on top against the Lions by a score of 7-4.

Ava Geyer made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She struck out eight batters over seven innings while giving up four earned runs off seven hits (and not a single walk). She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than eight strikeouts in five consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with three doubles, three RBI, and two runs. Those three doubles gave her a new career-high.
Geyer wasn't the only one making solid contact as eight players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Kiera Strakowksi, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI. Another was Addi Luther, who went 3-for-4 with one run and one RBI.
New Prairie was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .467. They are a perfect 7-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Meanwhile, Chesterton made easy work of Merrillville on Wednesday and carried off a 17-1 win. Considering the Trojans have won five contests by more than seven runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.
Like New Prairie, Chesterton also got a great game from a two-way player: Ava Vagner. On the mound, she struck out ten batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits (and not a single walk). Vagner was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, two RBI, and one double. Those hits were her first of the season.
In other batting news, Kylee Fieffer * and Claire Demeter did most of the damage at the plate: Fieffer * went 3-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and two doubles, while Demeter got on base in three of her four plate appearances with four RBI, two runs, and one double. That double was Demeter's first of the season. Lexi Smith was another key player, going 1-for-2 with three runs and one RBI.
New Prairie's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-4. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Chesterton, the victory got them back to even at 5-5.
New Prairie beat Chesterton 11-6 when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Do the Cougars have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Trojans turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
