This season hasn't been kind to the Tonopah Valley Phoenix, who are still winless after their seventh matchup. They were the victim of a tough 67-41 loss at the hands of Leading Edge Academy - GEC on Friday. While losing is never fun, Tonopah Valley can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked 325th, while Leading Edge Academy - GEC is ranked 107th).
Leading Edge Academy - GEC got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Samuel Sutherland out in front who dropped a double-double on 14 points and ten rebounds. Sutherland hasn't dropped below eight rebounds for four straight games. Another player making a difference was Mateo Bynum, who scored 14 points.
Tonopah Valley's defeat dropped their record down to 0-7. As for Leading Edge Academy - GEC, the victory was the eighth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 11-3.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Tonopah Valley won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Alchesay at 12:00 p.m. on December 30th. Leading Edge Academy - GEC and Florence will face off at 6:00 p.m. on December 29th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Florence is strutting with some offensive muscle, as they've averaged 58.2 points per game.
