Litchfield/Mt. Olive's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Ethan Saathoff, who threw for 119 yards and a pair of touchdowns, and Matthew Bywater, who picked up 60 receiving yards and two TDs.
Meanwhile, Carlinville entered their tilt with North Mac on Friday with three consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with four. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat the Panthers 64-21. The Cavaliers' offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.
Litchfield/Mt. Olive better keep an eye on Triston Thompson. He was instrumental in Carlinville's win, rushing for 94 yards and two scores. Those two rushing touchdowns gave Thompson a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Tate Duckels, who picked up 96 receiving yards and one touchdown.
Carlinville was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 303 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 223 rushing yards in four consecutive games.
One reason for the win was Carlinville's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for three sacks. Noah Convery was especially locked on to North Mac's QB and sacked him twice.
Carlinville's win bumped their record up to 4-1. As for Litchfield/Mt. Olive, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-5.
Friday's matchup might be decided on the ground. Litchfield/Mt. Olive has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 155 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Carlinville struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 217.6 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's contest turns into a tough fight on the ground.
