The Box Elder Bears will head out on the road to challenge Fort Benton/Highwood at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Box Elder is coming into the contest on a three-game losing streak.
Box Elder struggled with offensive rebounds on Tuesday (Big Sandy had 19 more) and sadly the final score reflected it. Box Elder fell to Big Sandy 59-53. While losing is never fun, Box Elder can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Montana basketball rankings (they are ranked 96th, while Big Sandy is ranked 14th).
Despite the defeat, Box Elder saw an underclassman step up: Martay Rosette scored 17 points along with six rebounds and two blocks. Rosette continues to roll, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Ariel Gopher, who scored 12 points.
Even though they lost, Box Elder were working as a unit and finished the game with 11 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.
Meanwhile, Fort Benton/Highwood came up short against Big Sandy on Friday and fell 49-36.
Box Elder has not been sharp recently, as they've lost four of their last five contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-7 record this season. As for Fort Benton/Highwood, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-3.
Things could have been worse for Box Elder, but things could have been a whole lot better as they took a 57-43 loss to Fort Benton/Highwood in their previous meeting back in December of 2023. Can Box Elder avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
