The Beech Grove Hornets pushed their score all the way to 59 on Friday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They fell 69-59 to Speedway. Even though they lost, Beech Grove's still made a splash on offense and bumped their average scoring up to 50.2 points per game (they're now ranked -1th in scoring overall).
When it comes to explaining why Beech Grove lost, one person who can't be blamed is Jarron Murry jr.. Despite the final result, he scored 18 points along with 5 rebounds. Murry jr. is absolutely dominating the steal category: he's posted at least two every time he's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Jeremiah Lee, who scored 10 points.
Even though they lost, Beech Grove were working as a unit and finished the game with 14 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Speedway only racked up five.
Leading Speedway to victory were Cam Reich and Drew Matelic. Reich scored 21 points along with 9 rebounds and 5 assists, while Matelic scored 27 points along with 5 rebounds. That makes it two consecutive games in which Reich has scored at least 25% of Speedway's points. Camden Bennett was another key contributor, scoring 8 points.
Beech Grove has fallen quite a ways from their 17-7 record last season and are now at 1-3. As for Speedway, the win got them back to even at 1-1.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Beech Grove will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Franklin Community at 7:30 p.m. on December 15th. Franklin Community presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Beech Grove in Indiana (Franklin Community is ranked 36th, while Beech Grove is ranked 331st). As for Speedway, they will head out on the road to face off against North Montgomery at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday. Hopefully North Montgomery focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 14 on Friday.
