The Bloom-Carroll Bulldogs will take on the Bishop Watterson Eagles at 5:15 p.m. on Friday. Bloom-Carroll is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 11 runs per game this season.
Bloom-Carroll's last matchup with Licking Valley could've gone either way, but unfortunately the same can't be said for the pair's match on Thursday. The Bulldogs lost 7-1 to the Panthers. Having soared to a lofty 16 runs in the game before, the Bulldogs couldn't push the score so high this time.
Bloom-Carroll saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Gabby Johnson, who went 1-for-3 with one run and one double.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Bishop Watterson). Everything went their way against St. Francis DeSales on Wednesday as they made off with an 18-3 victory. The win continues a trend for the Eagles in their matchups with the Stallions: they've now won nine in a row.
Kaitlyn Scholl was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she tossed four innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with one RBI. Those three hits gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, Bishop Watterson got a massive performance out of Grace Mayhan, who went 3-for-4 with five RBI, three runs, and one triple. That's the most RBI Mayhan has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Abby Emswiler, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three stolen bases, four runs, and two RBI.
Bishop Watterson always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .639. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Bishop Watterson's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 5-8. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.3 runs over those games. As for Bloom-Carroll, their loss was their first of the season and makes their record 16-1.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Friday. Bloom-Carroll hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.8 home runs per game. However, it's not like Bishop Watterson struggles in that department as they've been averaging 0.5 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Bloom-Carroll couldn't quite finish off Bishop Watterson in their previous meeting back in March of 2024 and fell 9-7. Can the Bulldogs avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
