The Cheney Tech Beavers will square off against the Vinal RVT Hawks at 3:45 p.m. on Monday. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.
Cheney Tech took a loss when they played away from home on Wednesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Thursday. They had just enough and edged out Academy of International Studies 15-14. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Beavers have posted since April 29, 2025.
Ella Moskites was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run over four innings pitched. Moskites was also big at the plate, going 2-for-5 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Olivia Garreffa was a standout: she got on base in four of her five plate appearances with three RBI and two runs. Another player making a difference was Jaedalee Torres, who went 3-for-5 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.
Cheney Tech was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .387. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .300 or higher in six consecutive matchups.
Meanwhile, Vinal RVT hadn't done well against Kaynor Tech recently (they were 1-7 in their previous eight matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. The Hawks had just enough and edged out the Panthers 11-9. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Hawks.
Like Cheney Tech, Vinal RVT also got a great game from a two-way player: Sophia Holt. She struck out six batters over seven innings while giving up four earned (and five unearned) runs off 14 hits (and only one walk). Holt was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last four times she's played.
In other batting news, Vinal RVT let Zandra Golkowski and Grace Krug run wild. Golkowski went 2-for-4 with five stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs, while Krug went 3-for-4 with two triples, two runs, and one stolen base. Krug is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last eight games she's played. Charlotte Palma was another key player, going 1-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.
Cheney Tech's win bumped their record up to 2-6. As for Vinal RVT, they now have a winning record of 5-4.
Vinal RVT's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Cheney Tech has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9.1 hits per game. It's a different story for Vinal RVT, though, as they've been averaging 11.2 hits. Given Cheney Tech's sizable advantage in that area, the Hawks will need to find a way to close that gap.
Cheney Tech suffered a grim 18-2 defeat to Vinal RVT in their previous meeting back in April. Will the Beavers have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check back here after the action for a full breakdown and analysis of the contest.
