NAPA, Calif. - After taking the lead in the fourth quarter,
Tamalpais (Mill Valley, Calif.) held on for a 27-24 victory over
Justin-Siena (Napa, Calif.) on Saturday. The difference for the Red Tailed Hawks was that they ran for a touchdown.
After nabbing the lead on a field goal by
Rafael Gonzalez, the Braves went into halftime with a 24-14 lead. The Red Tailed Hawks scored the winning points with a touchdown run that came in the fourth quarter.
Despite scoring zero points in the third, Tamalpais still trailed by 10 points going into the fourth quarter. But 13 points in the fourth helped THS pull out the victory.
The result came as a big surprise as Justin-Siena came in ranked No. 367 in the MaxPreps Freeman Rankings for California, while the Mill Valley school was ranked No. 544.
The loss comes after Justin-Siena defeated Drake 35-7 last week. The win was a nice bounce back for the Red Tailed Hawks, who lost to San Marin last week, 49-19. The victory ended Tamalpais' two-game losing streak. The loss snapped Justin-Siena's two-game winning streak.
Justin-Siena (4-2) goes up against Terra Linda in a Marin County game matchup next week, while Tamalpais (3-3) locks horns with Novato also in a Marin County game.
