North Surry (Mt. Airy, N.C.) saw its 11-point lead dwindle to three, but still managed to hang on and upset
South Stokes (Walnut Cove, N.C.) 23-20 on Saturday.
After taking the lead on a
Jacquan Martin touchdown run, the Sauras went into halftime with a 12-9 lead. The Greyhounds took the lead for good with a
Blaze Acord touchdown run in the third quarter.
The loss snapped South Stokes' 5-game winning streak.
Martin made a difference for SS. The junior running back ran for two touchdowns. He has now scored 21 touchdowns on the season.
Acord was the top performer for North Surry. The junior running back ran for three touchdowns. He has now scored 16 touchdowns on the season.
Last season's game between the teams resulted in a 45-21 win for NS.
The loss comes after South Stokes defeated Bishop McGuinness 37-6 last week.
North Surry (6-0) goes up against Mount Airy in a 2A/1A Northwest game matchup next week, while South Stokes (5-1) locks horns with East Surry also in a 2A/1A Northwest game.
