Basketball Recap: Zion Brown's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Gentry over Holmes County Central

Gentry lost against Holmes County Central back in January and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Gentry Rams fell 49-36 to the Holmes County Central Jaguars. The Rams just can't catch a break and have now endured four losses in a row.

Several Rams players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Zion Brown, who posted eight points and 14 rebounds. Brown has been hot recently, having also posted two or more steals the last four times she's played. Za'Kensly Yarbor was another key player, putting up ten points and three steals.

Holmes County Central's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Hailey Hurt led the charge by earning nine points along with seven boards and five assists. What's more, Hurt also racked up five steals, the most she's had since back in November of 2024. Another player making a difference was Ratasia Greer, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and ten rebounds.

Gentry's defeat dropped their record down to 9-11. As for Holmes County Central, their record is now 11-12.

Gentry wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 43-28 win against Greenville on the 28th. Holmes County Central has also already played their next matchup, a 47-44 victory against Yazoo City on the 28th.
