Meanwhile, Lumberton strolled past Gray's Creek with points to spare on Wednesday, taking the game 64-49. Given Lumberton's advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 213th, while Gray's Creek is ranked 540th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Douglas Byrd's defeat was their 21st straight at home dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 0-20. As for Lumberton, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine matches, which provided a nice bump to their 14-7 record this season.
Douglas Byrd was dealt a bruising 70-22 defeat at the hands of Lumberton in their previous matchup back in January. The contest was all but decided by halftime, at which point Douglas Byrd was down 48-9.
