After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Excel Christian Academy, the Candlelight Christian Academy Flames were happy to have found some success on Tuesday. They walked away with a 63-53 win over Genesis Prep. That result was just more of the same for these two, as Candlelight Christian Academy also won the last time the pair played back in January of 2023.
Candlelight Christian Academy's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Rah'Quez Shepard led the charge by scoring 18 points along with seven rebounds and five assists. Shepard also posted two blocks for the first time this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Alejandro Hernandez, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and ten rebounds.
Candlelight Christian Academy pushed their record up to 7-2 with that victory, which was their fifth straight at home. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 60.6 points per game. As for Genesis Prep, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-6.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Candlelight Christian Academy will face off against Winter Haven Christian at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Genesis Prep, they will head out on the road to take on Florida College Academy at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday.
