The Holmes Huskies will challenge the O'Connor Panthers at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Holmes has a tough task ahead: they'll enter the contest with five straight defeats, while O'Connor will come in with 13 straight victories.
On Tuesday, Holmes came up short against Brennan and fell 8-5.
Lauren Gonzalez made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double. Aubrey Olvera was another key player, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with one run.
Meanwhile, while O'Connor put up plenty of runs on Tuesday, the same can't be said for Marshall. The Panthers blew past the Rams 12-0. Considering the Panthers have won 15 games by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
The team relied heavily on Charlotte Briscoe, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, two stolen bases, and three RBI. Those two stolen bases gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Carolina Coimbra, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI, one run, and one double.
O'Connor hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least five batters in 34 consecutive matchups dating back to last season.
O'Connor's win bumped their record up to 21-4. As for Holmes, their loss dropped their record down to 1-21.
Friday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Holmes has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .461. However, it's not like O'Connor struggles in that department as they've averaged .486. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Holmes suffered a grim 13-1 defeat to O'Connor in their previous matchup back in March. Will the Huskies have more luck at home instead of on the road? Come back here after the game to get an analysis of the match and other softball content.
