Mount Vernon was handed a two-point loss in their last contest, but they sure didn't let that happen against Annandale on Wednesday. Mount Vernon breezed by Annandale at home to the tune of 64-26. Given Mount Vernon's advantage in MaxPreps' Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 120th, while Annandale is ranked 265th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Meanwhile, after a string of three wins, Thomas Jefferson Science & Technology's good fortune finally ran out on Thursday. They took a hard 50-31 fall against Edison.
Despite their defeat, Thomas Jefferson Science & Technology saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Anika Rhim, who scored six points, was perhaps the best of all. Abigail Lee was another key contributor, scoring seven points.
Mount Vernon's win bumped their record up to 7-5. As for Thomas Jefferson Science & Technology, their loss dropped their record down to 7-7.
Mount Vernon strolled past Thomas Jefferson Science & Technology in their previous matchup back in December of 2023 by a score of 52-37. The rematch might be a little tougher for Mount Vernon since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
