The Burke Bulldogs will head out on the road to challenge the Military Magnet Academy Eagles at 7:45 p.m. on Friday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Burke unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak on Tuesday. They took a 68-63 hit to the loss column at the hands of Cross.
Despite the defeat, Burke had strong showings from Terry Jenkins, who scored 22 points along with eight blocks, and Melachi Singleton, who scored 21 points along with three steals. Singleton is trending in the right direction, as he's improved his point production for three games straight.
Meanwhile, a well-balanced attack led Military Magnet Academy over the NaviGators in every quarter on their way to victory on Tuesday. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that Military Magnet Academy blew the NaviGators out of the water with a 73-44 final score. The contest was all but wrapped up at the end of the third, by which point Military Magnet Academy had established a 25 point advantage.
Jaylen Waters and Jailen Williams were among the main playmakers for Military Magnet Academy as the former scored 16 points along with two steals and the latter scored 22 points along with eight rebounds. It was the first time this season that Waters scored 15 or more points. The team also got some help courtesy of Robert Perrineau, who scored seven points.
Burke's defeat ended a five-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 14-8. As for Military Magnet Academy, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six contests, which provided a massive bump to their 8-15 record this season.
Burke skirted past the Eagles 44-42 in their previous meeting back in January. The rematch might be a little tougher for Burke since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
