The Crownpoint Eagles's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their fifth straight loss. They fell to Newcomb 35-31. Crownpoint was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Newcomb apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in February of 2023.
Newcomb's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Lethia Yazzie led the charge by scoring 14 points. Nevaeh Miller was another key contributor, scoring nine points.
Crownpoint has been struggling recently, as they've lost six of their last seven matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-9 record this season. As for Newcomb, their win was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 9-9.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Crownpoint will take on Navajo Prep at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Navajo Prep presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Crownpoint in New Mexico (Navajo Prep is ranked 27th, while Crownpoint is ranked 98th). As for Newcomb, they will head out on the road to take on Zuni at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Zuni will be looking to extend their current three-game winning streak.
