Baseball Recap: Marshall Academy Takes Down Canton Academy in a Playoff Battle

With a playoff win on the line, Marshall Academy rose to the challenge on Friday. Everything went their way against the Canton Academy Panthers as they made off with a 10-2 victory. The result was nothing new for the Patriots, who have now won 15 matchups by six runs or more so far this season.

Gage Todd and Mason Woods were major factors while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Todd pitched five innings while giving up just two earned runs off two hits. Meanwhile, Woods tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Todd has been consistent for a while: he hasn't given up more than two walks in ten consecutive appearances. At the plate, Todd went 2-for-5 with one double and one RBI, while Woods went 2-for-5 with three RBI, two runs, and two doubles. Those two doubles gave Woods a new career-high.

In other batting news, Colt Carpenter and Hayden Lundine did most of the damage at the plate: Carpenter went 2-for-3 with three stolen bases and four runs, while Lundine got on base in all five of his plate appearances with two runs and two RBI. Those two RBI gave Lundine a new career-high. Collin Woods was another key player, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.

Marshall Academy kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in six consecutive contests.

Marshall Academy has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 14 of their last 16 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 23-9 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.2 runs over those games. As for Canton Academy, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 5-13.

Marshall Academy has already played their next matchup, a 6-5 victory against Winona Christian on the 29th. Canton Academy does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
