The Gaffney Indians will square off against the Wade Hampton Generals at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Gaffney has given up an average of 9.3 runs per game this season, but Tuesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Gaffney managed to slip by Dorman the last time these teams faced off, but didn't have those same answers this time around. The Indians came up short against the Cavaliers on Friday, falling 16-1. Having soared to a lofty 19 runs in the game before, the Indians couldn't push the score so high this time.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Wade Hampton, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Wednesday. They were the clear victors by a 12-2 margin over Eastside on Monday. Considering the Generals have won six matchups by more than six runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.
Kellyn Kingston made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out nine batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off four hits (and not a single walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 11 consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two RBI.
In other batting news, Breleigh Betsill was a standout: she went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and one stolen base. She is on a roll when it comes to hits, as she's now got three or more in each of the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Sydney Placko, who went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI.
Gaffney has traveled a rocky road recently, having lost six of their last eight contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-15 record this season. That patch can't be blamed on the team's hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.1 runs over those games. As for Wade Hampton, they now have a winning record of 10-9.
Gaffney came up short against Wade Hampton in their previous meeting back in March, falling 15-10. Can the Indians avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
