After a string of five wins, the KIPP San Jose Collegiate Wolfpack's good fortune finally ran out on Thursday. They took a 64-54 hit to the loss column at the hands of More. The contest was a 29-29 toss-up at halftime, but KIPP San Jose Collegiate was outscored by More in the second.
Several Wolfpack players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Christian Ademe-Johnson, who scored 25 points along with five rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Ademe-Johnson has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Jonathan Mendoza, who scored 14 points along with six rebounds and two steals.
Tim Selway was his usual excellent self, scoring 29 points along with eight rebounds and four blocks for More. That makes it three consecutive games in which Selway has scored at least a third of More's points. Another player making a difference was Ben Selway, who scored seven points along with seven assists.
KIPP San Jose Collegiate's defeat ended a ten-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 11-7. As for More, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 9-5 record this season.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. KIPP San Jose Collegiate will face off against DCP Alum Rock at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. DCP Alum Rock is on a seven-game streak of home wins, KIPP San Jose Collegiate a four-game streak of away wins -- so someone will have to leave a streak behind on the court. More won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against East Palo Alto Academy at 4:30 p.m. on January 19th. East Palo Alto Academy will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps California Rankings (they are ranked 1328th, while More is ranked 601st).
