The Loudoun Valley Vikings will face off against the Loudoun County Captains at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Each of these teams will be battling to keep a three-game winning streak alive.
On Thursday, Loudoun Valley was able to grind out a solid victory over Heritage, taking the game 8-5.
Kayla Dunkerley was incredible, going 3-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. Harlie Reich was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two doubles, one stolen base, and one run.
They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Loudoun Valley kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post 11 or more hits.
Meanwhile, Loudoun County got themselves on the board against Broad Run on Thursday, but Broad Run never followed suit. They came out on top against the Spartans by a score of 3-0. That's two games straight that the Captains have won by exactly three runs.
Not much got past Keira Bertoglio, who gave up just five hits and racked up nine Ks to keep Broad Run off the board. Bertoglio has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one walk in four consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Loudoun County saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Abby Williams, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. Olivia Eastlake also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.
Loudoun Valley's win bumped their record up to 4-5. As for Loudoun County, their victory bumped their record up to 9-4.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Tuesday. Loudoun Valley hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 1.2 home runs per game. However, it's not like Loudoun County struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 1 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
