Cape Henry Collegiate is a perfect 3-0 against Hickory since March of 2022 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Wednesday. The Dolphins will be playing at home against the Hawks at 5:30 p.m. Cape Henry Collegiate is coming into the game hot, having won their last six games.
If Cape Henry Collegiate beats Hickory with seven runs on Wednesday, it's going to be the team's new lucky number: they've won their past two contests with that exact score. The Dolphins came out on top against Hampton Roads Academy by a score of 7-4 on Tuesday.
Trajan Taylor looked comfortable as he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Harley Matela, who went 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. That home run was his first of the season. The team also got some help courtesy of Chris Martinez, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.
Hickory came out on top against Oscar Smith on Tuesday thanks in part to the team's impressive six-run fifth inning. The Hawks were the clear victors by a 12-2 margin over the Tigers. Considering the Hawks have won five matchups by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Ryan Barks looked comfortable as he pitched 3.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off five hits.
At the plate, Hickory got a massive performance out of Brayden Bachman, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and one stolen base. Another player making a difference was Ryan Kennedy, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.
Hickory kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Oscar Smith only managed five hits.
Cape Henry Collegiate pushed their record up to 13-7 with the win, which was their fifth straight on the road. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.8 runs over those games. As for Hickory, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-4 record this season.
Cape Henry Collegiate skirted past Hickory 7-5 when the teams last played back in March of 2024. Will the Dolphins repeat their success, or do the Hawks have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
