It was a good run, but the Bel Air Highlanders unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak on Friday. 2024 welcomed they with a 52-29 loss courtesy of Hanks. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Bel Air has scored all season.
Bel Air's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Adalyn Palomo, who scored six points along with three steals. Palomo is absolutely dominating the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Alyssa Saldana, who scored seven points.
Leading Hanks to victory were Anette Hernandez and Daisy Fernandez. Hernandez dropped a double-double on 16 points and 17 rebounds, while Fernandez dropped a double-double on 19 points and 13 rebounds. The contest was Fernandez's 14th in a row with at least ten points. Elise (Jax) Alva was another key contributor, scoring seven points along with six assists.
Bel Air's defeat ended a 17-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 16-3. As for Hanks, they are on a roll lately: they've won ten of their last 11 matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 13-11 record this season.
Bel Air will head out on the road to face off against Ysleta at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Ysleta focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 19 on Friday. As for Hanks, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Horizon at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Horizon is coming into the game on a six-game losing streak.
