6A District 8 recap Sept. 26, 2012
Adner Grajales of Leto ran for the longest rushing play in 6A District 8 this season against Armwood last week. Grajales' team fell to the Hawks as he sprinted for 78 yards on the play and finished with 95 in all.
Strawberry Crest moved up to 237 from 358 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league. A 32-24 win over the Chargers helped the Chargers improve their standing.
Armwood's dynamic duo of Darryl Richardson and Alvin Bailey proved tough for Leto to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Richardson threw for 331 yards and five touchdowns and Bailey had 106 yards receiving. Shedaul Price helped Armwood's passing attack out by catching two balls for 55 yards.
Nigel Harris was the most productive running back in the league this week. In 17 carries, he ran for 146 yards as Hillsborough bested Matt Kitchie's team. Jeremiah Green also contributed to the rushing game with 75 yards on the ground.
Strawberry Crest's Tristan Hyde and Karel Hamilton have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading 6A District 8 in both passing and receiving yards. Hyde has thrown for 982 yards this season, while Hamilton, a 6-foot-1 receiver, has 20 catches for 357 yards. Ray Ray McCloud III from Sickles leads the league in rushing with 369 yards.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when the Hawks take on Jefferson. As it stands, Armwood is in second, while the Dragons are in fifth.
The Hawks were the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from fifth to second in the league. Earlier in the week, Armwood defeated the Falcons 49-0.
