Rowan County has gone 8-2 against Fleming County recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Thursday. The Vikings will head out to challenge the Panthers at 6:00 p.m. Rowan County is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.5 runs per game this season.
On Wednesday, Rowan County made easy work of Wolfe County and carried off an 8-2 victory. The win continues a trend for the Vikings in their matchups with the Wolves: they've now won seven in a row.
Kelsey Pennington spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on five hits and racked up nine Ks.
At the plate, Rowan County got a massive performance out of Lauryn Eastham, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, two stolen bases, and four RBI. That's the most RBI Eastham has posted since April 2nd. The team also got some help courtesy of Kelbie Ford, who went 2-for-4 with two triples, two runs, and one RBI.
Rowan County hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least four batters in 14 consecutive games.
Meanwhile, Wednesday just wasn't the day for Fleming County's offense. They lost 10-0 to East Carter on Wednesday. The Panthers haven't had much luck with the Raiders recently, as the team has come up short the last three times they've met.
Fleming County saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Courtney Doyle, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base.
Rowan County's victory bumped their record up to 16-9. As for Fleming County, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-13.
Rowan County got the 'W' when the teams last played on April 7th against Fleming County by a conclusive 13-0 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Vikings since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
