Baseball Recap: Overton Puts Losing Streak Behind Them

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Centennial, Overton was happy to have turned things around on Tuesday. Everything went their way against the Antioch Bears as they made off with a 14-1 win. Considering the Bobcats have won nine matchups by more than six runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Justin Schwarz looked comfortable as he kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out six over four innings pitched. He is becoming a predictor of Overton's success: when he allows at most two earned runs the team is 5-1 (and 11-12 when he doesn't).

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Jackson Bennett, who went 1-for-2 with two runs, one double, and one RBI. Devon Bender also deserves some recognition as he got his first hit of the season.

Overton always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .529. They are a perfect 6-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

With the victory, Overton broke their six-game losing streak and moved their record to 16-13. As for Antioch, their defeat was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 0-16.

Overton will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Bears: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
