The Bishop Carroll Golden Eagles were the 42-14 winner over the Maize South Mavericks when they last played one another back in October of 2015, but their luck changed this time around. Bishop Carroll took a 41-28 hit to the loss column at the hands of Maize South on Friday. Bishop Carroll has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Despite the loss, Bishop Carroll still got an impressive performance from Thomas Gorges, who rushed for 116 yards and three touchdowns. Another player making a difference was Van Haneberg, who picked up 108 receiving yards and a touchdown.
Bishop Carroll's loss was their sixth straight on the road (dating back to last season), which dropped their overall record down to 3-6. Admittedly, the team was facing some tough opposition over that stretch, including 8-1 Kapaun Mt. Carmel and 8-1 Derby (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 78.8% over those games). As for Maize South, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 7-2 record this season.
Bishop Carroll does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Maize South will square off against Hutchinson at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Hutchinson will be looking to extend their current five-game winning streak.
