Delta Valley recap Oct. 30, 2012
Monterey Trail moved up to 392 from 444 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in Delta Valley. The Mustangs were able to make move up by losing to Elk Grove 54-40.
Franklin extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating Laguna Creek, 66-8. This was the team's ninth consecutive win.
Grant's dynamic duo of Isaiah Rios and Trayvon Henderson proved tough for Davis to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Rios threw for 184 yards and three touchdowns and Henderson had 110 yards receiving. Darrion Jeffery helped Grant's passing attack out by catching two balls for 50 yards.
Robert Frazier was the most productive running back in the league this week. In 16 carries, he ran for 220 yards as the Thundering Herd topped the Blue Devils. Wadus Parker also contributed to the rushing game with 168 yards on the ground.
Grant's Rios and Henderson have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading Delta Valley in both passing and receiving yards. Rios has thrown for 1432 yards this season, while Henderson, a 6-foot-2 receiver, has 33 catches for 557 yards. Elk Grove's Frazier leads the league in rushing yards with 1402.
Parker of the Chris Nixon's team is only 56 yards short of surpassing 1,000 rushing yards for the season. Parker has rushed for 944 yards on 113 carries so far this year.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Franklin takes on Monterey Trail. Michael Johnson's team is in first place, while T.J. Ewing's team is in third place.
The Wildcats led the league in scoring this week after putting up 66 points on the Cardinals. Christian Fonbuena ran for 63 yards and caught one passes for 18 yards in the win.
