Football Recap: Yulee Skates Past Baldwin with Ease

Yulee had to kick off their season on the road on Friday, but they showed no ill effects. They claimed a resounding 42-14 victory over the Baldwin Indians. The final result isn't all that surprising considering the Hornets' considerable advantage in MaxPreps' Florida football rankings (they are ranked 157th, while the Indians are ranked 363rd).

Yulee's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Liam Hice-Jones led the charge by throwing for 236 yards and a pair of TDs (1 INT) while completing 75% of his passes, and also punching in 1 rushing score. Duke Johnson helped Hice-Jones out on the ground, rushing for 87 yards and 1 touchdown on only 12 carries.

Yulee was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 213 yards. That's the most rushing yards they have managed all season.

Several Indians players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Ca'Lief McSwain, who picked up 128 receiving yards and 1 score. McSwain got the majority of those receiving yards when he pulled down a pass and took off for a gain of 80 yards.

Yulee's win brought them up to 1-0. As for Baldwin, they are on a three-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-1.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Yulee will venture away from home to take on First Coast at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Baldwin, they will head out to face off against Raines at 6:30 p.m. on Friday.
