Caverna is 0-5 against Thomas Nelson since March of 2016 but things could change on Monday. The Colonels will be playing at home against the Generals at 5:30 p.m. Caverna has given up an average of 18 runs per game this season, but Monday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Caverna is headed into Monday's matchup looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their eighth straight game on Thursday. They lost 19-1 to Butler County. On the bright side, the one- run performance marked the Colonels' highest-scoring contest to date.
Meanwhile, Thomas Nelson entered their tilt with Paris on Saturday with three consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with four. They put the hurt on the Greyhounds with a sharp 15-3 victory. While the Generals didn't have the best season last year (they finished 8-14), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.
Mason Dobson and Ethan Casey made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Dobson tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Meanwhile, Casey tossed four innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits. At bat, Dobson earned two RBI and two runs, while Casey got on base in all four of his plate appearances with two RBI and one double. Those two RBI gave Casey a new career-high.
In other batting news, Thomas Nelson got a massive performance out of Justin Parsley, who went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one triple. Those three runs gave Parsley a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Cole Girdley, who went 2-for-3 with three runs, one triple, and one double.
Thomas Nelson's win was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 7-5. The road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.3 runs on average over those games. As for Caverna, their loss dropped their record down to 0-8-1.
Caverna might still be hurting after the 12-3 defeat they got from Thomas Nelson when the teams last played back in May of 2019. Will the Colonels have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the action for a full breakdown of the game and more baseball content.
