4A Region II District 13 recap Oct. 23, 2012
Lovejoy extended the longest winning streak in 4A Region II District 13 this week by beating Denison, 54-30. The victory was the seventh in a row for the team.
Greenville moved up to 854 from 890 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league. The Lions were able to make move up by falling to Wylie East 42-17.
Sherman's dynamic duo of Dru Smith and Jt Luper proved tough for Royse City to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Smith threw for 378 yards and five touchdowns and Luper had 140 yards receiving. Joseph Harvey helped Sherman's passing attack out by catching four balls for 113 yards.
Nicholaas La Sane was the most productive running back in the league this week. In six carries, he ran for 113 yards as Lovejoy bested the Bulldogs. Teammate Dan Sefcik added to the ground attack by rushing for 110 yards.
Sherman's Smith and Luper have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading 4A Region II District 13 in both passing and receiving yards. Smith has thrown for 2515 yards this season, while Luper, a 5-foot-9 receiver, has 45 catches for 882 yards. Matt Green's team's La Sane leads the league in rushing yards with 865.
The top two teams in the league will face off this week when first place Lovejoy takes on second place Sherman. The Leopards topped the Yellowjackets last week, while Gary Joe Kinne's team defeated Royse City.
Two of the top units in the league will face off this week when the Bearcats take on Lovejoy. Sherman's offense has recorded 319 points this season, making them No. 1 in the league, while the Leopards have permitted only 135 on the year.
There should be lots of points scored when Lovejoy and the Bearcats face off this week. The top two offenses in the league, the Leopards comes in having scored 297 this season, while Sherman has scored 319. Lovejoy scored 54 points last week as it beat Denison.
The Bearcats took down Greg Strahm's team 56-28 last week, the largest margin of any game. Smith ran for 13 yards in the win.
