The Iola Mustangs won the last time they faced the Prairie View Buffalos, and things went their way on Thursday too. Iola blew past Prairie View 56-27 on the road. That looming 56-27 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for Iola yet this season.
Iola's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Matt Beckmon led the charge by scoring 16 points. Those 16 points set a new season-high mark for him. The team also got some help courtesy of Landon Weide, who scored seven points along with ten rebounds and seven assists.
Iola's victory bumped their record up to 4-2. As for Prairie View, their loss was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season, which bumped their record down to 1-4.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. After both having extra time off, Iola and Fort Scott will shake off the cobwebs and take on one another at 7:00 p.m. on January 2, 2024. Fort Scott presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Iola in Kansas (Fort Scott is ranked 42nd, while Iola is ranked 129th). Prairie View will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Adrian on January 5, 2024.
